Concrete steps toward lower-impact cabins

Piikkio Works, in collaboration with Meyer Turku, has developed a next-generation cabin concept designed to minimize environmental impact throughout the product’s entire lifecycle — from material choices and manufacturing processes to passengers’ everyday decisions.

The Sustainable Stateroom Concept

The Sustainable Stateroom Concept serves as a laboratory for testing solutions for future cabins. It incorporates innovations related to materials, energy efficiency, spatial design, installability, and passenger behavior. As a large cruise vessel may contain thousands of passenger cabins, even small improvements can collectively create a significant impact.

Sustainable choices

Small choices have a significant impact

Sustainable choices can also bring positive economic benefits. For example, a display in the concept cabin’s bathroom shows real-time water consumption. Making water usage visible increases awareness and encourages more responsible behavior.

Some elements can be adopted quickly

Some elements can be adopted quickly

Through the Sustainable Stateroom project, Piikkio Works has taken concrete steps toward more sustainable cabins. Some of the materials and solutions introduced in the concept can be implemented quickly, while others will be gradually developed toward full-scale production readiness.

Minimizing vibrations and structural stress

Piikkio’s experienced R&D team continuously enhances the technical quality and performance of the modules.
