Safety First is a company strategy at Piikkio Works. Safety is an integral part of everything we do and remains a non-negotiable priority in every situation. We constantly work to reinforce and improve the everyday safety practices. Our safety process ensures a safe, secure and sustainable working environment by managing risks, enforcing compliance, investing in work ergonomics, and promoting a proactive safety culture throughout all phases of operations.
At Piikkio, we develop safety through a wide range of measures. Hazard and risk assessment is a key tool in safety management, and we carry out assessments regularly and whenever changes occur. Identified risks are addressed through systematic mitigation measures, and the effectiveness of these actions is reviewed on a regular basis. Planned safety and cleanliness rounds, together with active management involvement, help ensure that our working environment is safer every day.
A strong safety culture cannot be built through top-down enforcement alone. It requires the right mindset and active participation from the entire organisation. One key indicator of our safety culture development is the number of reported safety observations, which has increased more than tenfold since 2016. Employees at Piikkio and across our network can report observations via the Meyer EYE application.
Our professionals deserve a safe working environment. That’s why we have optimized our factory layout to prevent crossings between machinery and personnel. We also continuously work to maintain a clean and orderly work environment. A clean workplace helps reduce accidents and improve efficiency. The right kind of PPE (personal protective equipment) plays a key role in preventing injuries.
In recent years, we have also improved our chemical safety by replacing chemicals with safer alternatives. We continuously assess the chemicals we use and look for safer or more environmentally friendly alternatives suitable for our operations.
Inappropriate conduct or policy breaches can occur in any organisation or work environment. It is vital that any undesirable behaviour or potential violations are reported as early as possible. Early reporting enables the organisation to investigate the situation and take the necessary measures.
